Hi, I'm Michael!

My focus is on web applications based on PHP (laravel), Javascript (Vanilla, jQuery, Vue.js) and MySql.
A pixel-based PDF comparison tool in Javascript, based on Mozilla's PDF.js. No need to upload your PDF files to a server. Everything happens in your browser.
A Javascript tool for text-diffing, based on the longest-common-subsequence algorithm.
A fractal generator using Web Workers and leaflet.js (a Javascript library for interactive maps).
A php class library for reading macros and environments from LaTeX files. Used by Dagstuhl Publishing to read metadata from LaTeX files, to validate the files, to extract the bibliography entries, get compilation messages, ...
I studied mathematics and physics at Saarland University from 1994 to 2002.
After graduating, I worked as a high-school teacher for 15 years and continued my mathematical studies as an independent researcher, mostly in collaboration with Jörg Eschmeier. The thematic focus of my work is on multidimensional operator theory with connections to several complex variables and measure theory.
Music is pure emotion! - And it doesn't even have to be complicated. It's amazing how many songs from the most diverse genres simply "work" with a few chords on a steelstring guitar and two-part vocals. Simply fun to do that with friends!
What other sport can compete with that: You don't need a lot of equipment, your age hardly plays a role, and you don't need a special place to do it. You just go out and start running. And come back completely exhausted, but simply happy. In between, things happen in your head that you couldn't consciously initiate - good ideas just come to you.
I ran my first half marathon in 2011 and I've been hooked ever since. The nice thing is that even without a training plan, the distance is easily achievable for an amateur runner, and yet there is still that certain challenge. So, just the thing for a "fair-weather runner" like me. 😎
Personal best: 1h 39min (Saarschleife 2013)
